DrexxBeats and Sineym put African love at the heart of Sikhulekile
Love songs are nothing new, but DrexxBeats and SineyM believe Sikhulekile has a different story to tell. Rather than focusing solely on romance, the pair use the single to celebrate African love, culture and the values they believe have always been at the heart of meaningful relationships.
Released on 15 July, Sikhulekile blends Zimbabwean rhythms with South African Afro-pop to create a warm, uplifting sound that speaks to both the heart and the continent’s rich musical heritage. While the song is inspired by the promises couples make through wedding vows, its message reaches beyond romance, encouraging listeners to embrace love built on trust, loyalty and respect.
For vocalist Sineym, the single is about reminding people that genuine love has always been part of the African story.
“Sikhulekile advocates for true African love that embraces loyalty, trust, commitment and faithfulness in relationships,” she says. “We also wanted to celebrate the beauty and richness of African culture and encourage relationships that are built on shared values, morals and respect.”
She hopes the song resonates with couples at every stage of their journey, whether they are falling in love, rebuilding a relationship or celebrating years together.
“We hope the song rekindles the fading spark in a love that has the potential to burn endlessly,” she says. “We want people to listen to the song and feel that it is okay to love truly and that love has always been a part of who we are as Africans.”
That celebration of African identity extends beyond the lyrics. As African music continues to gain international recognition, Sikhulekile embraces cultural influences without losing sight of where they come from. “African music is fascinating because it demonstrates the diversity and variety of our cultures, and African artists are not afraid to share those parts of themselves,” says Sineym. “The pride we have for our rich cultures encourages that connection, and I hope listeners connect with and enjoy our sound altogether.”
For producer DrexxBeats, authenticity was never something to compromise. Instead of following popular trends, he focused on creating a sound that reflected his own musical journey.
“What helped me remain authentic was taking what I’ve learned from different genres and blending those influences into my own production style, rather than copying or following a particular sound,” he explains. That philosophy also shaped the production process. While commercial success is something every artist hopes for, DrexxBeats believes longevity comes from staying true to your creative instincts.

While the lyrics carry the song’s message, Sineym believes the emotion behind Sikhulekile is powerful enough to reach listeners regardless of language. “When I heard Sikhulekile for the first time, I felt like I was in love and I could see myself getting married to my prince charming just by listening to the melodies and the beautiful blend of the voice and instruments,” she says.
She hopes listeners who don’t understand every lyric will still connect with what the song represents. “I hope they still get the message of love and feel it in the instruments and the emotion that my voice carries. We hope the song awakens the spirit of true and genuine love.”
For both artists, Sikhulekile is more than another release to add to their catalogues. They hope it becomes a song that grows with its listeners and remains meaningful long after its release.
