King Stuff and Daniel King make up the duo Kingsmen.

“With our producer, Daniel King having a versatile ear and touch it’s a norm for us to dabble with a bit of everything in terms of music styles. We have EPs in four different genres which are namely Hip-Hop, Kasi Rap, AfroBeats and Amapiano. We have decided to not limit nor box ourselves to any particular genre because we are all-around musicians,” says the duo.

On the other hand, King Stuff, primarily a rapper with an infectious charisma, can easily adapt to any genre. “King Stuff’s lyrical prowess, delivery and vibrant demeanour make him stand out from most rappers and this helps him blend incredibly well with Daniel King in any genre.”

“Daniel King is also a phenomenal vocalist and adds his serenading touch to most Kingsmen songs through his angelic voice and punchy bars as he does rap from time to time. His obsession with the studio combined with King Stuff’s obsession for the business side of things is an unmatched combo in the form of the Kingsmen.”

The duo was featured on the reality show “Ngikhethele” on Mzansi Magic and Showmax which catapulted the Kingsmen into the mainstream. King Stuff’s starring role in the show, coupled with their music being featured, not only amplified their fanbase but also made them household names across the country. Their chart-topping single, “German,” featuring G-Tech 2Bit, is another attestation to their rising star power.

“Ngikhethele was a nod by the entertainment industry and it is how we have been welcomed into the mainstream. Daniel King also appeared on a couple of episodes of the show which also boosted his image but more than anything, most of the music including the theme song for the show was produced by the Kingsmen. In essence, the reality show has put us out there and now ours is to maintain the hype and rise even higher,” they say.

They have collaborated with artists like Rashid Kay and Soweto’s Finest which has not only expanded their reach but has also solidified their reputation as sought-after artists. One of their biggest achievements is their chart-topping single “German” featuring G-Tech 2Bit. The track garnered immense popularity and continues to dominate the airwaves.

“German is a gem that we cooked up with Pitori Superstar G-Tech 2Bit. We were supposed to release a different record with G-Tech but due to him being busy at the time he gave us a beat and hook he had already worked on. We subsequently jumped on the verses and we gave the music to the streets. Look out for the music video on your small screens.”

On lessons learned from working with industry giants, “It is said that your network is your net worth, who you keep around counts. We can keep great people around us as we have given our blood, sweat and tears when it comes to our craft. Rashid-Kay has always been somewhat of a mentor to us and Soweto’s Finest are friends of ours and the rest is history. We also have great collaborations coming up with Shluda De Guru and King Sweetkid so be on the lookout for those.”

The duo’s music has been featured on radio stations like Hillbrow Radio, Channel Africa Radio, 1Africa Radio, YFM, Umhlobo Wenene and SlikourOnLife. “Radio is important because it is a platform that extends you to the general public while paying you royalties. As much as things have gone almost fully online lately it is advisable for artists not to forget about this important platform as it increases one’s chances of succeeding and reaching their desired audiences and creating a name for themselves in doing so.”

Their latest album, “I Used to Dream: Rejects Resurface,” is a compilation of songs that didn’t make it onto their EP series. This release is a celebration of dreamers and goal chasers who’ve been rejected or sidelined, proving that the rejects are resurfacing and claiming their rightful places.

“We are about love, respect, fighting for your integrity, good times, God, art and of course a bit of the party life. These are subjects we explore in our music but we try to keep it fun and vibrant most of the time instead of sombre and serious. We released a series of four EP’s in different genres called the I Used To Dream series. We wrapped this string of releases up with the release of ‘I Used To Dream: Rejects Resurfaces’ which is also our debut album.”

The duo explains how working with a team of professionals has impacted their careers.

“With a team working behind the scenes managing the nitty-gritty details, this allows us to focus on what we do best – making music and entertaining our fans. Advice to aspiring artists is simple: build a reliable and professional team to maximize productivity.”

With their sights set on international acclaim, the Kingsmen are positioning themselves to go beyond South African and African shores.
