Basadi in Music Awards 2023: Celebrating Women’s Excellence in the Music Industry

The music industry witnessed a night of grandeur and celebration as the Basadi in Music Awards 2023 unfolded, honouring the exceptional achievements of women in the field on August 12.

The event, held at the Joburg Theatre, under the theme of African Royalty and Sneakers was a platform to acknowledge the outstanding contributions of female artists who have redefined the music landscape.


The annual awards were founded in 2022 with the goal to celebrate female talent and achievements in the music industry.

The all-encompassing awards honour varied talents such as singers, rappers, DJs, composers, producers and creatives in the music ecosystem.

Among some of the big winners were Lwah Ndlunkulu who won the big award of the night, Artist of the Year beating out Makhadzi and Uncle Waffles.

DJ of the Year award went to Lady Amar, while Nadia Nakai (ft Lucasraps) won Hip Hop Artist of the Year.

Jazz Artist of the Year- Thesis ZA

Music TV Presenter of the Year – Ntombee Mzolo

Music Video of the Year – Ney The Bae

Pop Artist of the Year – Holly Rey

Newcomer of the Year – Group Chat

Reggae Artist of the Year – Empres Lilly

Social Media Influencer of the Year – Tshidi Kekana Manganye
