“I’ve always loved music, for as long as I can remember, I was a very musical toddler too, always imitating Beyonce when her songs were playing. My family used to quiz me on my musical knowledge too so I just grew up with the passion, one might even say I was born with it. When I got older I loved it more and more to the point where if there were activities in school that involved music, dancing or just being on stage, best believe you would find me there front and centre. The first time I got on a stage and entertained people was second grade.”

Her dedication to music led her to study sound engineering at Boston Media House in Sandton. Unfortunately, financial constraints forced her to withdraw from completing her degree. Reflecting on this obstacle, she shares, “It broke me, but I healed because I realized that I met some amazing people who helped me build my career.” She recorded her first single, ‘Soap,’ in her apartment during this time, marking the beginning of her musical journey.

“It was the best experience ever because not only did it put me exactly where I wanted to be but it also helped me discover the path I wanted to take when it comes to my craft.”

‘Soap’ and local recognition

Her first single, ‘Soap,’ released in 2019, held a special place in her heart. “This song was made after I met my partner. I honestly never knew I could express my feelings in that way.” The track not only gained local recognition but also garnered attention on the international stage, propelling her into the spotlight. The release of ‘Soap’ was a pivotal moment, marking her transition from a music enthusiast to a bona fide artist.

Over the years, the Black and White singer has released 11 songs, including an EP and an international feature. Her music has evolved, becoming more personal and heartfelt, and resonating with her fans. She describes her style as a journey of self-expression, emphasizing, “I don’t box myself in. If I feel a certain way, it’ll reflect in my music.”

“I used to think I’d be a fashion designer, funny enough. I love clothes, I love looking good and I know I’m not the only one. It’s also a way to communicate and get in touch with my supporters. When I receive orders I do the deliveries myself. For me this is a beautiful experience to meet and see a person who believes in me and my craft, get to talk to them and see the smiles on their faces when I walk towards them to give them a product that’ll remind them of me and the experience I shared with them.”

Osu BlackRose has also ventured into event hosting at venues like “Native Rebels” and “Kitchener’s.” She fondly recalls these moments as “the best feeling,” as she witnesses people coming together in her name, showcasing how music can unite and create harmony among individuals.

“They allow me to experience life in the fullest form and inspire me to grow. I love exploring different parts of art and there are so many angles when it comes to art so I don’t want to be in just one place, I’m like a little bunny, I just love hopping around and being active and all these skills that I dive into allows me to do that so I’m not just in the studio, I’m also in other spaces that broaden my perspective in the art space,” she says.

Being in a place where it’s filled with greatness is like an electrical currency, it’s hard to ignore.”
