This initiative comes as part of the department’s commitment to support emerging talent and equip them with essential skills beyond their craft.

The workshops, which will take place across all five regions of the province, are designed to benefit approximately 250 beneficiaries of the department’s DJ Development program. This program encompasses not only aspiring DJs but also emerging performing artists and school groups participating in the Wednesday League Integrated School Arts Programme.

The first workshop has already taken place at the Dumisani Masilela (Germiston) Theatre on February 21.

The focus is on imparting knowledge about Financial Wellness and the Business of the Arts. Participants can expect to receive guidance from accredited financial institutions and insights from seasoned industry professionals.

The workshop schedule is as follows:

February 22, at Gauteng Archives Centre, Kagiso from 10:00

February 23, at Es’kia Mphahlele Library at Sammy Marks Square from 10:00

February 24, Vereeniging Town Hall from 10:00

February 26, Hollard Building, 17 Simmonds Street, Johannesburg from 10:00.

These workshops are poised to equip young DJs with the financial acumen necessary to navigate the complexities of the industry and build sustainable careers. Through education and empowerment, the department aims to foster a new generation of financially savvy artists who can thrive in Gauteng’s vibrant cultural landscape.
