Dyna Steez wins big at Basadi in Music Awards
South African hip hop had a powerful showing at this year’s prestigious Basadi in Music Awards, with Dyna Steez emerging as the Hip Hop Artist of the Year for the hit track Nomalanga.


The competition was fierce, with nominees including Dope Saint Jude (Why Not), Faith K (Qosh), Fifi Cooper (Running), and Nadia Nakai (Never Leave).
Nadia Nakai also made waves as a nominee for Best Styled Artist of the Year, highlighting the ever-growing intersection of fashion and hip-hop culture. Her influence extends beyond music, making her a trendsetter in the world of style, which is deeply intertwined with the identity of hip-hop.
Beyond hip-hop, the awards night was a celebration of the country’s diverse musical landscape, with artists like Tyla and Makhadzi also taking centre stage. Tyla secured the International Achievement Award and swept the Song of the Year and Song with the Highest Airplay categories with her global hit Water.
Meanwhile, Makhadzi continued her reign in the dance music scene, winning Dance Artist of the Year and sharing the International Achievement Award with Tyla.
Kamo Mphela, won the Amapiano Artist of the Year and Music Video of the Year for her single ‘Dali’ featuring Khalil Harrison, Tyler ICU and Baby S.O.N.
The ceremony, hosted by Unathi Nkayi was a star-studded affair, featuring performances from a range of artists across genres.
